Downloading Windows 10 OR 8 ISO Images using Rufus

Usually, we will download the ISO images from Microsoft website but not from Rufus as we know Rufus is being used to create a bootable USB media. Latest Rufus version is capable to download Windows 10 or 8 ISO images directly and prepare the USB drive to a bootable media so that we can use to install Windows 10 or 8 after completion.

So, let’s take a look on how to do it.

Step 1 | Go-to Rufus website and scroll down to download section and download the latest Rufus software.


Step 2 | Connect your USB drive and launch Rufus once download.

Step 3 | On Rufus select USB drive to be use then click the triangle button next to SELECT and click DOWNLOAD twice to initiate Rufus script to download the ISO image.

If you unable to see the triangle button next to SELECT, scroll down to the bottom of this article and refer section in red fonts.


Step 4
 | Rufus will pop up to select which ISO image to be download. In this guide, I will be downloading the Windows 10 ISO image. Click Continue to proceed.


Step 5 | Select Windows 10 release. As for now, the latest Windows 10 is 19H2. Select this release and click Continue to proceed.


Step 6 | Select your Windows Edition either Home/Pro or Education and click Continue to proceed.


Step 7 | Select Language for your Windows and click Continue to proceed.


Step 8 | Select your computer Architecture either 64-Bit or 32-Bit then click Download to proceed and a window pop up will appear ask to save the ISO. Select location to save the ISO.


Step 9 | Rufus now starting to downloading the ISO image. This process will take a while depending on your internet connection speed and wait until complete.


Step 10 | Once download complete, click START on Rufus to create the bootable media.


Step 11 | Click OK to continue. Rufus will re-format your USB drive to prepare the bootable media.


Step 12 | Rufus will start the process to create the bootable media and wait until finish.


Step 13 | Click Close twice after completion and you can test it out to boot from the USB drive to install Windows 10.



If you are unable to see the triangle button next to SELECT, go-to Rufus setting below Status and click the third button from the left 


From the Rufus setting, Change the Update to Daily (Default) and click Close twice. Launch Rufus again and you will see the button.
